The Chapel of Pinduradouro is located in the small rural agglomeration of Pinduradouro, in the parish of Alvão, municipality of Vila Pouca de Aguiar. Situated next to the stretch of municipal road CM1152, the building stands on a slightly elevated point, marking the center of the village.
The traditional cobblestone ground and granite walls enclose the winding street that leads to the chapel, creating a picturesque setting that highlights its silhouette against the neighboring houses.
Possibly erected in the late 18th century, the chapel was built to serve the spiritual needs of the farmers and shepherds of the Alvão region. Over the centuries, it maintained its original design thanks to the tradition of conservation using granite and ceramic tiles.
Local devotion kept the memory of its construction alive: the chapel hosted small seasonal pilgrimages, moments that reinforced the sense of community and preserved popular traditions linked to the agricultural calendar.
The cubic volume, in rough granite, features an old-style tiled roof that ends in a gable, crowned by a stone bell-gable highlighting a cross. This simple bell-gable is an element of strong symbolic presence, announcing the sacred space even from a distance.
On the main facade, the blue-grey painted wooden door contrasts with the stony mass, while small open windows allow the entry of faint light, creating an atmosphere of contemplation inside.
Around the chapel stretches the typical landscape of the Alvão plateau, with green fields and granite slopes in the distance. In the spring months, the contrast between the old stone and the vegetation sprinkled with wildflowers adds a touch of color to the scenery.
The location invites a contemplative pause, offering visitors a calm and authentic photographic spot, far from the bustle of main roads, where the rural silence enhances the perception of architectural details.
