The chapel stands by the main road of Cimo de Vila, at the entrance to Provesende, in the municipality of Sabrosa. It is situated in a calm area, on slightly elevated ground, offering a wide perspective over the village's granite rooftops.
Access is via a stretch of cobblestone, with a slight incline, which highlights the discrete yet distinctive presence of this religious building within the surrounding urban space.
Dating back to the mid-18th century, this chapel reflects the tradition of devotion to Our Lady of Sorrows that characterized several rural communities in the Vila Real district. Its location at the village entrance underscores the role it played in local pilgrimages and processions.
Over the centuries, it has undergone minor restorations that preserved its original granite design, maintaining the symbolic connection between the community and its religious heritage.
The facade displays simple lines, with a triangular cornice supported by granite pilasters, topped by a cross and two pinnacles. The contrast between the exposed granite and the white plaster lends it a sober elegance.
Surrounding it, the cobblestone street and traditional houses create a tranquil setting, ideal for those seeking a photographic record of rural architecture and for a brief pause during a walk through the village.
