The Lamas Chapel is located in the eponymous area of Lamas, an area that is part of the village of Alvadia, in the municipality of Ribeira de Pena. This location is set in a calm environment, characteristic of a rural community, in the heart of northern Portugal, inviting a moment of serenity while appreciating the picturesque landscape of the parish.
Also known as the Chapel of Our Lady of Remedies, this religious building features a Mannerist architectural style, characteristic of a period of artistic transition. One of the most notable peculiarities in its construction lies in how natural light illuminates the space: the side facades were designed with strategic openings to bathe the chancel area in light, creating a distinct ambiance inside.
Upon entering the chapel's main portal, visitors are greeted by an interior that reveals interesting details. Of note are the confessionals integrated into the structure itself, demonstrating a functionality thoughtfully designed for the space. Near the entrance, the holy water font can be observed, a traditional element of religious architecture. In the central point, the main altar captures attention, displaying rich ornamentation in gilded and polychrome carving, a testament to the sacred art of the era that invites contemplation.
