The Castro do Cabeço dos Mouros rises on top of a hill, with the Levadas and Tenente streams flowing in its immediate vicinity. Its position, although not notable for extensive panoramic views over the surrounding landscape, offers a unique perspective on the local environment and the natural topography that surrounds it, intimately integrating it into the territory.
This settlement dates back to a period of great importance in the region's history: the First Iron Age. Its occupation began around the 7th century BC, marking the presence of ancient communities that established themselves in this strategic location. The castro is a testament to the social organization and construction practices of those remote times.
Upon visiting the site, one can observe the remnants of walls, built with small stones, which once delimited this ancient settlement. Inside the area protected by the wall, traces of circular-plan dwellings are still visible, typical of these hilltop settlements. The abundant presence of pottery fragments on the surface of the terrain is a testament to the life that took place here millennia ago, offering a direct glimpse into the daily lives of its ancient inhabitants.
