These markers are part of the world's first demarcated wine region, established in the 18th century to guarantee the quality and authenticity of Port Wine.
They were placed in 1758 and 1761 by order of the Marquis of Pombal, in a pioneering initiative to control the production and export of Douro wines.
They served to mark the limits of the authorized production zone, distinguishing the vineyards that could produce quality wines for export.
They are rectangular granite blocks, inscribed with the text “FEITORIA” and the corresponding year.
They are located at Quinta do Piar, in Barqueiros. One of them is situated in an area with a privileged view over the Douro river, and the other is integrated into the winery's structure itself, serving as support for a beam.
They have been classified as Property of Public Interest since 1946, which reinforces their historical and cultural importance.
These markers are associated with the classification of wines as "feitoria", the highest quality ones, intended for export, marking the region's prestige in international trade.
Set within a rural and viticultural landscape, they offer an authentic experience linked to the history and tradition of the Douro Wine Region.
