The Chapel of Saint Barbara is located in Fiães do Tâmega, one of the localities that form part of the union of parishes of Codessoso, Curros, and Fiães do Tâmega. Situated in the municipality of Boticas, this chapel is set in a rural and tranquil environment, characteristic of the Alto Tâmega region. Its discreet presence invites a moment of pause and contemplation in the surrounding landscape.
Dedicated to Saint Barbara, the chapel reflects the popular religious architecture typical of Barroso. Its construction largely utilizes granite, an abundant material in the region, lending it a robustness that harmonizes with the natural environment. Although it may have undergone several interventions over time for its maintenance and preservation, the chapel retains a simple and unpretentious aesthetic.
On the exterior, the chapel stands out for its simplicity. The main facade features a portal, which fits the characteristic design of rural buildings. Above, continuing from the gable, stands a bell tower in granite, with simple lines, culminating in a cross, signaling its devotional function and its importance as a landmark for the local community.
Upon visiting the chapel's interior, one finds a space for contemplation, which prioritizes simplicity. The environment is uncluttered, allowing attention to focus on the essential elements of faith. It is possible to observe a crucifix and, on the side walls, some corbels that house religious images, reflecting the popular devotion and the faith of the inhabitants of Fiães do Tâmega.
