The Empresa da Cal Park is located in the Aveção do Cabo area, in the tranquil locality of Campeã, belonging to the municipality of Vila Real. This space benefits from a unique natural setting, fitting into the landscape where the imposing Serras do Alvão and Marão are visible, striking elements of the Trás-os-Montes region.

Its position in the landscape, which formerly housed an old company, offers an environment of transition between the industrial past and the natural present, providing an immersive experience integrated with the territory.

From Old Industry to Public Park

The site that today hosts the Empresa da Cal Park was once an industrial unit dedicated to lime production, dating back to the 1930s. Over time, its structures degraded, transforming into ruins.

Recently, this 12-hectare plot underwent a requalification project, designed to convert it into a public park. The initiative aimed to create an ecosystem that seeks to connect human presence with nature and art, reimagining the space and its memory from a new perspective.

Nature, Art, and Inspiration

The Empresa da Cal Park is today an example of how nature and creativity can coexist. The space was the subject of an extensive reforestation project, which introduced new species and preserved existing ones, demonstrating a vision of forest conservation. Throughout the park, there are various gardens and natural water pools that complement the landscape.

Art plays a central role in the park. Visitors can discover over two dozen works by local artists, some created by authors from the wider Trás-os-Montes region. Notably, for instance, the Jardim Gabriela (Gabriela Garden), which hosts an interactive artistic installation, designed to explore light as an element of ascent and connection to the sky.

Verses in the Landscape

One of the distinctive aspects of the Empresa da Cal Park lies in its poetic dimension. Along the paths, visitors find poems engraved on schist stones, a rock typical of the region. These verses, which emerge from an original autobiography of the author, serve as points of interest that guide walkers through the park.

The integration of poetry into the landscape invites reflection and contemplation, encouraging visitors to slow down, breathe deeply, and absorb the silence of the natural environment, creating a unique sensory and introspective experience.
