The Boticas Rural Museum is located in the Sangunhedo area, within the village that gives its name to the municipality. It is housed in an old agricultural complex that reflects the local architecture.
The museum's structure integrates this historic agrarian unit, offering a physical setting that directly relates to the themes addressed within, in an environment that evokes rural life of past times.
The museum space is housed in an old agricultural unit that reflects the daily and productive life of other eras. The complex consists of different buildings that form an organic whole.
It includes the old main house, with its characteristic design and three floors. Separated by an inner courtyard is the winery, where the wine press is still visible. This place was once vital for the preservation of essential provisions, such as cereals, honey, or the renowned "wine of the dead".
This museum center is dedicated to illustrating the profound relationship between the inhabitants of Boticas and their territory throughout the centuries. The exhibition explores how human interaction shaped the landscape and local identity.
Special emphasis is given to the vital dependence on land and water for subsistence, as well as to the spiritual dimensions that accompanied and influenced the experiences of the communities. A singular element on display is the "mesinha de S. Sebastião", a testament to practices and beliefs rooted in local culture.
