Located in the village of Bobadela, in the municipality of Boticas, the Rural Museum is integrated into the environment it represents. Its position in the village allows visitors an authentic approximation to the rural life of Barroso.
The museum is housed in what was once an agrarian unit, comprising a stately home. Although its architecture is simple, the three-story building is an example of traditional regional construction, bearing witness to the type of housing and family organization of the past.
Separated by a courtyard, there is an old wine cellar with a wine press. This space played a fundamental role in the domestic economy, serving to store essential provisions such as honey, potatoes, rye, and, notably, the wine of the dead, revealing ancestral practices and customs linked to subsistence.
The main focus of the Bobadela Rural Museum is the profound interaction between human beings and the territory of Boticas. The exhibitions illustrate how the physical and spiritual experiences of the inhabitants shaped the region's identity and configured the landscape over the centuries.
The themes explore the vital importance of land and water as elements of subsistence, pillars of the daily life of communities. One of the most unique elements on display is the little table of St. Sebastian, which offers a perspective on the beliefs and rituals that marked local life.
