The Church of Saint Andrew is situated in the tranquil locality of Oucidres, integrated into the municipality of Chaves. Positioned on the outer edge of the village, at an altitude of 777 meters, its surroundings, marked by a serene churchyard, invite a moment of pause. This elevated setting allows for a glimpse of the harmony between the houses and the surrounding natural environment.
Although the oldest documented parish records for this church date back to the mid-18th century, with references to marriages celebrated in 1737, the temple of Oucidres is recognized for its antiquity. Accounts from 1758, found in the Parish Memoirs, suggested that the church had an ancestral character, even being associated with the Knights Templar or considered an ancient abbey. This heritage, though veiled, imparts a particular historical significance and an atmosphere of mystery to the place, inviting contemplation of its long centuries of existence.
The building features a longitudinal plan, characterized by a main nave leading to a chancel, typical elements of traditional religious architecture. Attached to the left side facade is the sacristy, complementing the structure of the temple. Inside, the main altar stands out, where the image of Saint Andrew, the patron saint, is venerated. Laterally, other altars are found, adorned with altarpieces displaying representations such as the Infant Jesus and Our Lady of Conception, testaments to the devotion and art that, over the centuries, have enriched this sacred space.
