The site where the Mother Church of Sabrosa stands today has a profound history, dating back to an older, smaller religious structure. This primitive church was demolished in the 17th century, making way for the construction of the current temple, which was built in two distinct phases.

A particularly interesting fact concerns its connection to Ferdinand Magellan. It is believed that the church was erected on the same site where a chapel belonging to the House of Ferdinand Magellan existed, referenced in the will that the celebrated navigator made before his historic circumnavigation voyage.

Architectural Features

Dating from the 18th century, the Mother Church of Sabrosa is presented in the Baroque style, evident in its design and the details that compose it. The main facade, though sober, stands out for its balanced composition, reflecting the aesthetics of the era.
