The Chapel of Saint Anne is located in Granja, an area belonging to the town of Alijó, in the municipality of the same name. It stands in a rural and peaceful setting, offering a wide panorama of the surrounding landscape. Its secluded position invites a moment of serenity and contemplation of the Trás-os-Montes horizon.
Built in 1920, the Chapel of Saint Anne represents an example of 20th-century religious architecture. Its structure consists of a nave and a chancel, characteristic elements of small chapels. Inside, the carved wooden ceilings create a welcoming and distinctive atmosphere. Visitors can also observe the choir loft, a pulpit located on the Gospel side, and a 19th-century altarpiece that adorns the space. The building underwent renovation in 2006, allowing for its conservation and maintenance.
The Chapel of Saint Anne maintains its original religious use, serving as an active place of faith and devotion for the local community. Annually, on July 26th, the space gains special significance with the celebration of the Feast of Saint Anne. This celebration is a gathering point and an important moment of unity, honoring the saint traditionally recognized as the patroness of grandparents and grandchildren, symbolizing the importance of family ties and tradition in the region.
