The Miguel Torga Space is located in the village of São Martinho de Anta, in the municipality of Sabrosa. This building was designed to harmoniously integrate into the Trás-os-Montes landscape that Miguel Torga so well described. Its position, south of an old fairground, is marked by walls that adapt to the terrain's slope, giving it a discreet and authentic presence in the surroundings.
The fundamental purpose of this cultural space is to preserve and disseminate the richness of the work of the great Trás-os-Montes writer, Adolfo Correia da Rocha, better known as Miguel Torga. It is a place dedicated to deepening knowledge about his life and his vast literary legacy, allowing visitors an immersion into the universe of one of the most significant authors in Portuguese literature. A permanent exhibition room guides you through the moments and creations that marked his career.
Designed by the renowned architect Eduardo Souto Moura, this building stands out for its contemporary architecture that dialogues with local tradition. Its imposing shale walls, a characteristic material of the region, define its identity and the contours of the space. Beyond its main vocation, the Miguel Torga Space is a vibrant cultural center, regularly hosting a variety of artistic and literary activities, including concerts, theatrical performances, and book presentations. The building features an auditorium, a library, and a room dedicated to temporary exhibitions, making it a meeting point for various cultural manifestations.
