The Chapel of Sá is located in the small village of Sá, part of the parish of Ervões, in the municipality of Valpaços. It is situated in an urban environment, but within its own space, slightly isolated within the village. It benefits from a spacious churchyard around it, providing a serene and easily accessible setting, visible from the main road that crosses the village.
Although the structure currently visible at the Chapel of Sá, also known as the Chapel of Santa Luzia, is a 20th-century construction, its presence on the site is much older. As early as 1758, historical documents referenced a Chapel of Santa Luzia in the village of Sá. The current chapel was built around 1976, replacing the previous edifice. During the reconstruction process, no vestiges of the original building were preserved. The bell tower, one of its prominent features, was later built by the stonemason Manuel António da Cruz, a native of the Valpaços region.
As a religious building, the Chapel of Sá maintains its use for worship, playing a central role in community life. Its architecture, dating from the 20th century, reflects a more contemporary approach to the construction of spaces of faith. Its significance for the region is officially recognized, having been classified as a Property of Municipal Interest since 1977. For visitors, the chapel offers a point of quietude and reflection, set within an open and welcoming space, inviting a pause to appreciate the tranquility and simplicity of the location.
