Pincães Waterfall is located in the village of Cabril, part of the municipality of Montalegre, in northern Portugal. It is situated within the vast and scenic Gerês Mountain Range, forming part of the Peneda-Gerês National Park. The waterfall forms where the Pincães River flows through a relatively deep gorge before emptying into the Cávado River, offering a unique view of the surrounding mountainous landscape.
At this spot, the Pincães River abruptly plunges down a granite slope, creating a waterfall approximately twenty meters high. This formation is due to the sharp elevation changes in the terrain, resulting from the varying hardness of the predominant rock, which in this case is granite. The force of the water feeds a small, translucent lagoon, inviting visitors to observe its clarity. The surrounding vegetation is luxuriant, complementing the natural environment.
The ambiance of Pincães Waterfall is conducive to moments of tranquility and observation. The lagoon formed by the waterfall, with its crystal-clear waters, is inviting for a refreshing swim, especially on warmer days. It's a point of interest for landscape photography enthusiasts, allowing them to capture the natural beauty of the scenery. The site invites relaxation and contemplation of nature in its purest state. When exploring the area, it is recommended to wear appropriate footwear for walking and to exercise due caution, always respecting the natural environment.
