At that time, it was already known as the "hermitage of Saint Archangel of São João, on the Gerês crag," indicating an ancient tradition. Historical information reveals that the site was, at that time, the setting for an annual pilgrimage, specifically on Saint John's Day, underscoring its devotional relevance for the mountain communities of yesteryear.
