The Chapel of Santo António da Boavista is located in the Union of Parishes of Alijó, within the locality of Alijó itself, in the municipality of the same name. It is situated in an area that offers a privileged perspective of its surroundings, providing a remarkable observation point of the village of Alijó and the surrounding landscapes.
This religious building features vernacular architecture, characterized by its simplicity and integration into local construction traditions. The chapel has a longitudinal plan and stands out for its rectangular porch, supported by pillars, which precedes the main entrance. The main facade culminates in a gable, with elements that allude to traditional aesthetics, such as the cornerstones crowned by pinnacles. The entrance portal has a straight lintel, flanked by slits and topped by a circular oculus, directly above the porch. The ensemble is topped by a discreet bell tower.
The side facades, in turn, are punctuated by rectangular windows with frames, fitting into the overall sobriety of the building. The chapel's interior ceiling is made of wood, in a style known as "masseira," lending a touch of authenticity to the space.
Upon entering the Chapel of Santo António da Boavista, visitors find a stripped-down interior, where the simplicity of materials and the absence of elaborate ornaments invite a moment of contemplation. This environment reflects the functionality and practical character of the region's popular architecture.
Adjacent to the chapel is a spot that serves as a natural viewpoint. From there, it is possible to enjoy a vast and captivating panoramic view over the picturesque village of Alijó, which extends harmoniously across the municipality's landscape. This point offers an excellent opportunity to contemplate the beauty of the region and the village's positioning within the territory.
