Located in the Ranginha area, in the town of Constantim, the Church Forecourt is situated in the municipality of Vila Real. This space is a central point with a notable presence in the local urban fabric, offering a serene pause within the parish environment, while naturally integrating into its historic center.
The church forecourt surrounds the Parish Church, featuring pavement that combines the robustness of granite slabs with the delicacy of ceramic mosaics in certain areas, particularly near an annex of the church. It is a carefully delineated place, enriched by the presence of some flowerbeds and trees that contribute to an inviting atmosphere. Its delimitation is made by metal railings, and the main access is marked by an imposing gate, flanked by quadrangular pillars ornamented with moldings, cornices, and finials at their top.
This church forecourt holds vestiges of a history built over centuries. As early as 1720, the surrounding walls were erected, giving it the form that can still be appreciated today. From this period also date the two significant staircases to the north, which once served as a connection to a higher place known as Mount Calvary. The ensemble is complemented by a long iron balcony that extends along the entire south facade, accompanied by other stairs and an upper courtyard, elements that reveal the importance and architectural complexity of this space over time.
