The Torre da Silva is located in Cachada, belonging to the village of São Julião e Silva, in the municipality of Valença. This area, situated south of the municipality, is a few kilometers from the town of Valença, set within a quieter context and a rural environment characteristic of Alto Minho.
The Torre da Silva is one of the most remarkable examples of ancient manorial architecture in Portugal. Erected in the 14th century, this quadrangular tower was the birthplace and fortification of the influential Silva family, whose roots extend to the Galician border. Known as Casa-Solar dos Silvas, it served as a "nest of rich men," witnessing centuries of history and noble lineage.
This imposing tower retains much of its original medieval character, despite the adaptations and transformations it has undergone over time. Its robust and defensive structure is visible, notably a peculiar exterior staircase attached to one of its faces. Although conceived for defensive purposes, the tower was integrated into a residential complex, highlighting its use for domestic purposes, of which some vestiges still remain.
