It is located in the parish of Paderne, in the municipality of Melgaço, district of Viana do Castelo.
National Monument since 1910.
Founded in the 11th century, it was linked to a female Benedictine order. In 1248 it passed to the Canons Regular of Saint Augustine, who began the construction of the church.
Romanesque style church with Gothic elements. It has a Latin cross plan and a facade with sculpted details. Inside, the tile decoration and the gilded wood altarpiece stand out.
Over the centuries, it underwent several changes, especially in the 17th and 18th centuries, which changed windows, altars, and interior coverings.
The convent was active until 1770, when the monks were transferred to Mafra. In 1855, the church became part of the municipality of Melgaço.
In 2021, conservation works began to restore the church, improve the structure, and enhance its artistic heritage. The first phase was inaugurated in July 2023.
Only three faces of the old cloister still exist, making it a point of interest for visitors.
