The Memory, Arts and Crafts Museum Centre is located in Riba de Âncora, a parish belonging to the municipality of Caminha. This space is situated in Largo do Espírito Santo, an easily identifiable location in the village. The parish of Riba de Âncora is characterized by its territorial extent, being positioned approximately twelve kilometers from the municipal seat, the town of Caminha.
This museum space is housed in the building that once served as Riba de Âncora's primary school. Through its collections, the center seeks to preserve and share the community's collective memory. Visitors can discover aspects of education from other times, exploring an environment that recreates the New State School and an Old Library, transporting us to the history of education in the region.
Also dedicated to traditional arts and crafts, the museum exhibits a diversity of implements and tools that were used by Riba de Âncora's artisans throughout generations. It is possible to observe instruments related to activities such as basketry, the art of working linen, and embroidery. This collection reveals the richness of traditional local craftsmanship and the manual skills that marked the parish's identity.
