The Hermitage of São Sebastião is located in the city center of Valença, forming part of the union of parishes of Valença, Cristelo Covo, and Arão. It is accessible in Largo de Doutor Alfredo Magalhães, with one of its façades facing Rua Conselheiro Lopes da Silva, which fully integrates it into the urban environment of the locality.
This small temple played a relevant role in Valença's religious tradition. In the past, it marked the final point of a significant faith journey, being the last of the four Stations of the Cross that extended through the city. This particularity gives it an important symbolic value for local history and devotion.
The hermitage features architecture characterized by its sobriety. Its longitudinal plan is of simple design, and the interior is illuminated in a balanced way, with natural light entering through both the main façade and the sides. A highlight of its interior is the wooden 'masseira' ceiling, an element that lends a peculiar and traditional touch to the space.
