Built in the 17th century by initiative of Gonçalo da Cunha, the first owner of Quinta do Amparo. Initially, there was a small niche, later replaced by a chapel.
The Casa Grande de Romarigães was immortalized in the novel by Aquilino Ribeiro, a landmark of Portuguese literature, which describes the history and social importance of this space.
Chapel in Baroque style, with architectural elements of great value. The Casa Grande and the chapel were classified as a Property of Public Interest in 1986.
The chapel played an important role in the community, being a place of devotion and religious meetings. Originally open to the public, today it is within the private limits of the farm.
The village of Romarigães is located on one of the historical routes of the Camino de Santiago, explaining the presence of several chapels in the region.
It maintains its baroque facade and some original details, such as the structure of the choir and elements of the connection to the main house.
Located next to the Casa Grande, the chapel can be appreciated for its historical and architectural value. Inside, you can watch a short film about Aquilino Ribeiro's connection to nature.
