Located in Largo do Eiró, in the village of Soajo, municipality of Arcos de Valdevez, district of Viana do Castelo.
The exact date of its construction is unknown, but it may be linked to the "Foral Novo" granted by D. Manuel I in 1514. Some studies point to the 17th century.
It was classified as a National Monument on June 16, 1910.
It rests on three steps and has an oval column, simple and without a base or capital. A smiling grotesque face carved on top and a triangular slab stand out.
In 1980, an uncontrolled oxcart crashed into the pillory, breaking it into three parts, after which it was restored.
The triangular shape may represent a loaf of bread cooling on the end of a spear or even a tricorn hat. Another local interpretation links it to the "rodo", an agricultural instrument used to level corn, associated with the idea of equal justice for all.
In addition to its historical value, the pillory is part of the tradition and identity of Soajo, being a point of interest for those who visit the region.
