Built in the 12th century, possibly in 1180, this Romanesque chapel is associated with the Order of the Hospitallers, which settled in the region in 1269.
It presents a late Romanesque style, with a modest structure: a single nave, a rectangular chancel, and a side chapel dedicated to Saint Thomas, added in the 14th century.
Noteworthy are the figures sculpted on the columns of the arch of the south window, which probably represent Saint John the Baptist and Saint John the Evangelist.
Initially used for devotional purposes and as a burial site for the commanders of the Order of the Hospitallers. Sarcophagi can still be found in the vicinity today.
In 1977, it was classified as a Property of Public Interest, guaranteeing its preservation and valorization as historical heritage.
It is located in São Vicente de Távora, in the municipality of Arcos de Valdevez, being a point of interest for those who appreciate medieval history and Romanesque architecture.
