It is located in the Centenários Garden, in the parish Union of Parishes of Arcos de Valdevez (São Salvador), Vila Fonche and Parada, in the town of Arcos de Valdevez, district of Viana do Castelo.
It has been classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1982, which highlights its historical and cultural importance.
The church was built by order of Pedro II of Portugal between 1690 and 1700, over the remains of an earlier construction, possibly medieval.
In 1765, the architect André Soares, from Braga, built the Calvary Chapel, located on the south side of the church. This chapel has a Rococo style, being an example of great beauty.
The church has a rectangular plan and is a good example of religious architecture, with an interior of great artistic richness.
The interior of the church is decorated with altars in gilded wood carvings and several paintings dating from the late 17th century and the second half of the 18th century.
