Paçô Beach is located in the parish of Carreço, in the municipality of Viana do Castelo, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. This cove is nestled in a small bay, where the coastal landscape is defined by granite outcrops that give it a distinct outline. The path to the beach is made by a traditional Portuguese paved road, which leads to a parking area.
The sandy area of Paçô Beach is extensive, composed of fine to medium sand with a noticeable presence of quartz. In its central part, the sandy strip widens, while at the ends it is delimited by rock formations. The beach is flanked by a dune system that contributes to its wild and tranquil atmosphere, typical of an unspoiled Atlantic coast.
The landscape of Paçô Beach is enriched by the presence of the Forte do Paçô, also known as Fortim de Montedor. This small fort, built in the 18th century by the Count of Lippe, is an element of historical value, classified as a Property of Public Interest since 1967, and completes the panoramic view of the site. Next to the sandy area, there are also old traditional fishing huts, which have been converted into dwellings, keeping alive the memory of the community's connection to the sea and giving the beach a unique and authentic character, with its granite constructions.
Bathed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, Paçô Beach offers favorable conditions for practicing some water activities. It is recognized for the quality of its waters, boasting the Blue Flag award since 1987, which attests to its environmental excellence standards. The characteristics of its waves make it a suitable place for surfing and bodyboarding, and its waters are also appreciated by those who engage in sport fishing and spearfishing.
