Praia da Pedra Alta is located in Castelo do Neiva, a locality in the municipality of Viana do Castelo, on the coast of Northern Portugal. This oceanic beach is situated within a coastal area locally known as Pedra Alta, and is bathed by the Atlantic Ocean.
This beach is distinguished by its extensive stretch of sand. In the northernmost part, the sandy area is wider and more isolated, offering a more tranquil environment for those seeking a more secluded space. As one moves south, the beach approaches an area with dwellings, where the environment becomes slightly more integrated into the local landscape.
A particular feature of Praia da Pedra Alta, in its southern area, is the presence of a natural bay. This cove is formed by two jetties: a larger one, extending approximately eighty meters out to sea in a northwest direction, and a smaller one to the south. The strategic arrangement of these jetties creates a coastal space where the waters remain calmer and more sheltered from the ocean's stronger waves, providing a distinct environment for those seeking tranquility by the sea.
