This forest was planted in the 13th century, by order of King Dinis, with the aim of protecting the coastal dunes and preventing the advance of the sea, which is part of its rich history.
Located between the beaches of Moledo and the mouth of the Minho River, in the municipality of Caminha, it is a perfect natural area for those who enjoy outdoor walks.
The forest, mainly composed of pine trees, provides a pleasant coolness, ideal for walks, runs or bike rides, with the sound of the sea in the background.
It offers several trails for hiking or cycling, allowing you to explore nature actively or simply relax while enjoying the landscape.
Inside the forest is this historic chapel, erected in 1809 to commemorate the Portuguese victory over the French troops. A stopping point for those who like history.
At the entrance of the forest, there is a picnic park, playground, bars, restaurants, a campsite and parking, offering everything for a pleasant day with family or friends.
It also has a synthetic grass football field for rent, ideal for those looking for sports activities.
The forest offers a stunning view of the Ínsua Fort, a historic fortress located on a small island off the coast.
With trees that are over 100 years old, the Mata Nacional do Camarido is an example of preservation, where you can also find species such as cork oaks, oaks and camarinhas (crowberries).
Since the 80s, car traffic has been prohibited inside the forest, guaranteeing a safe and peaceful space for all visitors.
