The Gelfa National Forest is located in the municipality of Caminha, to the south, between the mouth of the Âncora River and Forte do Cão (Dog Fort). It is close to the EN 13 national road.
The forest is known for its natural beauty and the diversity of trees, with maritime pines standing out. You can also find cork oaks, umbrella pines, elms, plane trees and poplars.
The forest incorporates an important dune cordon, formed over the years by sediments brought by the sea and rivers, which helps to protect the coast and enhance the landscape.
The forest is crossed by part of the Ecovia do Litoral Norte (North Coast Ecoway), a 7 km path that connects Moledo to Forte do Cão. It is ideal for hiking or cycling, offering direct contact with nature and the coast.
The forest is a calm and relaxing place, perfect for those looking for a refuge in nature. Its coastal and forest environment is ideal for quiet walks or for exploring the local fauna and flora.
