The Parish Church of Sá is located in Carreira, one of the areas of the parish of Sá, in the municipality of Arcos de Valdevez. Erected at the highest point of the locality, known as São Pedro's place, its position offers a wide perspective over the surrounding landscape. Its implantation follows the natural slope of a valley that opens to the east, with the lands of the parish benefiting, to the west, from the proximity of the Vez river.
Dedicated to Saint Peter, the Parish Church of Sá has a long and rich history that deeply connects it to the region. Its first known records date back to 1258, being mentioned in the Inquiries of D. Afonso III as part of the bishopric of Tui. In 1320, the church reappears in the official documents of King D. Dinis, attesting to its relevance. Over the centuries, its ecclesiastical affiliation underwent changes, having been, for example, annexed to the archiepiscopal chamber of Braga from 1580 onwards, a trajectory that highlights its lasting importance for the local community.
The parish building is a testament to its capacity for resilience and renewal over time. Although records from the mid-18th century indicated the need for a thorough renovation of the existing structure, the church remained a pillar of the parish's life. It is noteworthy that this temple remained unscathed by the great Earthquake of 1755, which caused considerable damage throughout the country. Inside, the church houses the main altar, consecrated to Saint Peter, its patron saint, and side altars dedicated to Our Lady and Saint Anthony, and to Saint Sebastian, inviting a moment of contemplation of its heritage of faith and art.
