Located over the Dorna stream, about 4.5 km south of Castro Laboreiro, in the municipality of Melgaço, within the Peneda-Gerês National Park.
The bridge may have Roman or medieval origins, but its exact construction is uncertain. It was part of an ancient Roman road that connected Portugal to Galicia. Over the centuries, it has undergone several modifications, presenting today characteristics from different eras.
It has a trestle deck with a slightly inclined double ramp, a perfect arch, and a curved access, typical of Roman bridges. Medieval interventions gave it a mixed appearance.
Its name does not appear in the historical records of the parish from 1758, which raises doubts about its true origin.
The bridge is set in an impressive natural setting, ideal for walking and exploring the historical heritage of the region. The surroundings include the traditional winter settlements ("inverneiras") of Castro Laboreiro, seasonal villages formerly used for transhumance.
