Casa e Quinta de Monteverde is located in Castelo do Neiva, a tranquil and predominantly rural area in the municipality of Viana do Castelo. This location offers access to the diverse natural landscape of Northern Portugal, nestled between the countryside and the proximity of the sea. The mouth of the Neiva River complements the scenic surroundings. Castelo do Neiva beach, with its extensive sandy shore, is just a short walk away, providing easy access to the coast.
This complex, centered around a 16th-century manor house, boasts a history deeply rooted in the region. The property was initially part of the entailed estate of Casa das Torres da Senhora das Neves de Sendim, under the ownership of the Cunha Lobo Barbosa Sottomaior family. The current name, "Monteverde," dates back to 1820, following the family's union with the Genoese judge Luigi Vital Monteverdi, who settled on the estate and gave it the name it still holds today.
Between 1998 and 2000, the house underwent a meticulous restoration process. This intervention aimed to preserve its valuable heritage and the tradition that characterizes the property, ensuring that the original beauty and style of the interiors were maintained, respecting its historical identity.
Quinta de Monteverde offers an extensive area of 17,500 square meters, distinguished by its vast gardens and the presence of various fruit trees. This green space, thoughtfully designed and maintained, provides an environment of serenity and a strong connection to nature.
Visitors can explore the various corners of the gardens, designed for moments of rest and contemplation. Outside, a swimming pool complements the ambiance, offering a refreshing spot on hot days. There is also a terrace that invites guests to enjoy the fresh air and tranquility of the countryside, in a retreat that combines rural calm with the sea breeze.
Inside the main house, the historical atmosphere is palpable. The furniture, paintings, and family portraits, many of them dating back to the 18th century, have been carefully preserved, allowing for a visual journey through the aesthetics of the era.
Among the common areas, the library and games room invite exploration. These environments house a remarkable collection of antique weapons, which enriches the visit with an additional cultural and historical touch. On some evenings, the lounge, with its fireplace, offers a cozy atmosphere, highlighting the traditional and inviting character of the manor.
