The Morgavel Dam is located within the municipality of Sines, in the Alentejo Litoral region. It is situated in the area sharing its name, over the Morgavel Stream, which gives it a unique natural setting within the locality of Sines.
Built in 1980, the Morgavel Dam is an earth-fill type of engineering work. With a height of 52 meters above its foundations and a crest length reaching 2700 meters, this large-scale structure plays an essential role in supplying the region.
The body of water formed by the dam, known as a reservoir, covers a flooded area of approximately 3.4 square kilometers. With a total capacity of 32.5 million cubic meters, the Morgavel reservoir creates a wide and serene landscape, where the vast expanse of water remarkably integrates into the natural surroundings.
