The Church of Our Lady of Fátima is located in Faralhão, an area that is part of the Sado locality, in the municipality of Setúbal. Situated in a residential area, this church provides a point of reference and a place of contemplation for those exploring the city's surroundings.
The design of this church is deeply inspired by the biblical narrative of Mount Tabor, evoking the Transfiguration of Christ. This architectural concept is materialized through the representation of three tents. The two larger tents, visible in its main structure, symbolize the House of God and the House of Men, illustrating the point where divinity manifested among humanity.
The church, inaugurated on May 3, 1998, was designed to be a spacious and welcoming place, facilitating community participation. One of the main tents constitutes the body of the church, while the other houses the social community center. There is also a third, smaller tent, which houses the Tabernacle, located in the Chapel of the Most High, thus completing the evocation of the three tents mentioned in the Transfiguration.
This temple holds particular significance as it was the last church to be consecrated by D. Manuel da Silva Martins, the first Bishop of Setúbal. This act conferred upon it a symbolic value in local ecclesiastical history, marking a relevant moment in the life of the diocese and the community it serves.
