The Church of São Sebastião is located in the former Convent of São Domingos, in Setúbal. It was built in the 16th century, with a history that includes the transformation of a small hermitage. The church was rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake.
The building combines elements of the Mannerist and Pombaline styles. It stands out for its imposing facade and simple interior, with a large nave and several side chapels.
The main altar features gilded carvings and an image of the coronation of the Virgin. The high choir has a neoclassical pipe organ, and the interior is decorated with 18th-century tiles and paintings.
In addition to the church, the convent has original parts, such as the cloister wing, which is well preserved.
The building is classified as a Property of Public Interest, remaining active for religious services.
The church is located in Largo de São Domingos, with easy access from Rua Edmond Bartissol.
It is possible to explore the church and cloister, appreciate the architecture and works of art, and learn about the history of the convent and the city.
