The Water Park is located in the Trabuco Valley area, integrated into the locality of Vila Chã, in the municipality of Barreiro. Its central position within the urbanization makes it an easily accessible point for those seeking a green space. The surrounding area is predominantly urban, which accentuates its importance as a green lung, offering views over some of the adjacent urban areas and, at certain points, to the Coina River, which extends nearby.
This park occupies the land of the old Maceda Estate, which in 1927 was sold to make way for the installation of one of the region's largest cork factories, the Granadeiro factory. Despite the industrial transformation, the park has preserved part of that past. Even today, the refractory brick chimney, a remnant of the industrial era, and the old factory canteen, now known as the Américo Marinho Building, can still be seen. This building has been adapted to become a dynamic cultural hub, housing various initiatives related to arts and technology.
The Water Park stands out for its remarkable ecological diversity. It integrates varied landscapes, from elevations to slopes and lower, flat areas, creating a natural mosaic. The park hosts a wide range of tree species, including ash trees, carob trees, pine trees, alder trees, oak trees, mulberry trees, lime trees, and cork oaks, which contribute to a fresh and inviting atmosphere. The element that gives the park its name are its two lakes interconnected by a waterfall, which add a scenic touch and a calming presence of water to the environment.
For those seeking active leisure or moments of relaxation, the park offers a variety of options. It features extensive lawns suitable for informal sports practice, as well as spaces dedicated to specific activities. There is a playground, tracks designed for skate and mountain bike enthusiasts, and even a climbing wall for the more adventurous. Visitors can also enjoy tennis courts and designated areas for traditional games or an outdoor chess match. For breaks and light meals, the park includes a picnic area.
Complementing the leisure offerings, the Water Park houses the Augusto Cabrita Municipal Auditorium, a relevant cultural facility for the region. This multifunctional space was designed to host a wide range of events, from dance and music performances to film screenings and temporary exhibitions. Furthermore, the Américo Marinho Building, part of the original structure of the old factory, functions as a center for fine arts and new technologies, enriching the visit with an artistic and educational dimension.
