Built in the 13th century, this church was founded by the Order of Santiago, located next to the castle, on top of the hill of Santiago do Cacém.
It has been a National Monument since 1910, being an important cultural and religious landmark in the region.
It combines Romanesque and Gothic influences, with emphasis on the ogival side portico and capitals decorated with animal figures.
The space stands out for its high choir vault, elaborate columns, brightly colored tiles, and a high relief representing Santiago.
After suffering significant damage over the centuries, it was restored between 1993 and 1996, ensuring the preservation of the building and its opening to the public.
The church houses the Treasure of the Collegiate Church of Santiago, which has been part of the Museum of Sacred Art of Santiago do Cacém since 2002.
Located within the castle walls, it offers a panoramic view of the city and its surroundings, being a point of interest for those who appreciate beautiful landscapes and history.
It is recommended to walk up the old streets to appreciate the historical surroundings. Near the church, you will find a tourist office and access to the cemetery, which occupies the castle area.
A place of peace, history, and architectural beauty, ideal for those looking for a cultural walk and moments of contemplation.
