Situated on the Atlantic coast of the municipality of Sesimbra, in the locality of Casal do Risco, Praia dos Penedos is nestled within a cove, at the base of steep rocky cliffs. It integrates with the surrounding natural landscape, benefiting from a characteristic mountain and sea setting of the area.
The particularity of this beach lies in its composition, being essentially formed by pebbles and stones, with few and small pockets of sand. It is a place where nature presents itself in a wilder form, with rock defining both the beach area and the surrounding cliffs. The Atlantic Ocean waters that bathe it are generally clear, although they can be rough on certain occasions. Note the presence of submerged rocks in the bathing area.
The landscape of Praia dos Penedos is marked by the imposing cliffs that protect it. On the western side of the cove, there is a natural cave and a staircase built into the rock. These elements add visual interest to the place and represent a path for those who venture to descend the cliff, offering a different perspective of the beach.
This is a place that offers an atmosphere of tranquility and isolation, sought after by those who prefer less crowded beaches and a more direct contact with nature. Its frequency is mostly by people who know the area, such as fishermen, or by bathers and visitors seeking serenity. Access by land, through trails on the cliff, is considered extremely difficult. The most recommended way to reach Praia dos Penedos is by sea.
