Galapos Beach is located within the area of Arrábida Natural Park, in the municipality of Setúbal. Situated on a stretch of the Atlantic coast, it benefits from the natural surroundings of this mountain range, known for its cliffs that extend close to the sea.
Its sheltered position, protected from the direct influences of the open sea by the surrounding rock formations, contributes to the tranquil atmosphere of the location. Access to the sandy area is from the upper zone, via a staircase that descends the slope.
Galapos Beach's sandy area is of a considerable size. It is composed of golden sand and, at its extremes, features formations of pebbles and rocks that shape the coastal landscape.
The waters that bathe Galapos are typically calm and transparent. This serenity is due, in part, to the protection offered by the cliffs. In the westernmost area, some submerged rocks are found near the waterline.
Being on this beach allows one to fully enjoy the scenic setting of the Arrábida Mountain Range, with its vegetation descending the slopes almost to the sea. The view encompasses a significant portion of the protected landscape surrounding this stretch of coast.
The clarity and tranquility of the waters create favorable conditions for observing coastal marine life. It is a place where one can appreciate the underwater diversity, with diving being a common activity to explore this natural environment.
