Praia do Salto is located in the Porto Covo area, in the municipality of Sines. This sandy beach is situated in a sheltered cove, nestled between the neighboring beaches of Cerro da Águia, to the north, and Cerca Nova, to the south. This entire coastal zone is part of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park.
Direct access to the sandy area is generally gained by descending a staircase located on the southern slope of the cliff that borders the beach.
This beach features a sandy area of limited size, which expands significantly during low tide. The cliffs that flank it create a wind-sheltered environment and give it a secluded character, providing a greater sense of privacy.
It is renowned for its natural beauty, maintaining a wild appearance. An interesting detail is the presence of a small fresh water spring on the cliff, where one can refresh themselves.
Since 2002, Praia do Salto has held the official status of a naturist beach in Portugal. It was one of the first beaches in the country to be legally recognized for the practice of naturism.
Especially during the summer season, the beach is frequented by a considerable naturist community, which contributes to a specific and welcoming atmosphere for those who practice or wish to experience naturism.
Being in a cove between cliffs, the beach offers particular views of the coast from the top before descending. Its integration into the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park highlights the natural beauty and preserved coastal landscape that surrounds it.
During low tide, it is possible to walk along the base of the cliffs and pass to the adjacent Cerca Nova beach, exploring a bit more of the coast under this particular condition.
