Praia do Ribeiro do Cavalo is situated on the coast of the municipality of Sesimbra, nestled in a natural cove that opens to the Atlantic Ocean. It is a short distance from the center of Sesimbra village, along a stretch of coastline characterized by its natural beauty and being an integral part of the Arrábida Natural Park. The beach is sheltered at the base of a valley, with the lush green slopes of the mountains framing the sand and the waters.
For those arriving, the beach is located in a more isolated area of the coast, accessible via specific routes that allow discovery of this natural haven. Its geographical position, between the rock formations and the mountain vegetation, gives it a particularly secluded environment.
This beach stands out for its natural and wild state, a result of its location in a protected area. You won't find any support infrastructure here, which contributes to the preservation of its pristine environment. The waters are known for their turquoise-blue hue and clarity, inviting serene contemplation of the coastal scenery.
The landscape setting is marked by the presence of the mountains surrounding the sand, creating a tranquil and untouched environment. The beauty of the place lies precisely in the harmony between nature, the calm sea, and the feeling of remoteness from more populated areas.
The sandy area of Praia do Ribeiro do Cavalo is considerable, extending along the base of the mountainous valley that delimits it. It is composed of light-colored sand, which contrasts with the vibrant colors of the water and surrounding vegetation. On the western side of the cove, there is the stream (ribeiro) that gives part of its name to the beach, and to the east, a smaller sandy area complements the space.
In front of the beach, various sea stacks (leixões) emerge from the water, small rock formations that add a scenic element to the seascape. It is said that a nearby rock formation, shaped like a horse's head, also contributes to the designation of the place.
Reaching Praia do Ribeiro do Cavalo requires some preparation, as access is not direct by road. It is necessary to traverse a trail along the slope, whose difficulty is considered medium, with some steep inclines. This walking trail, although requiring some physical effort, is part of the experience of discovering the beach.
Alternatively to the trail, it is possible to access the beach by sea. This option, using boat transport from Sesimbra port, is faster and more convenient, being recommended for those who prefer to avoid the walk or for those carrying more equipment. Regardless of the access method, the experience at the beach is one of direct contact with nature, without the support of commercial services.
For enthusiasts of sea activities, Praia do Ribeiro do Cavalo offers suitable conditions for exploring the underwater environment. The transparency of the waters allows for good visibility. With appropriate equipment for surface diving (snorkeling), it is possible to observe marine life among the rocks and underwater vegetation.
The area in front of the beach is an interesting spot for this activity, with the presence of various fish species inhabiting the rock formations and the seabed. It is an invitation to discover the hidden biodiversity beneath the surface.
