Outão Beach is located in the area of the same name, in Santiago do Outão, in the locality and municipality of Setúbal. It is situated on the north bank of the Sado River estuary, at a point where the coastal landscape begins to take on the forms of the Arrábida Mountain slopes. Its position is markedly influenced by its immediate proximity to the Forte de Santiago do Outão.
This beach features a small stretch of sand, a characteristic that makes it unique. It is important to note that during high tide periods, the sandy strip can become completely covered by seawater. The waters in this area are generally calm, contributing to a peaceful environment along the coast.
A distinctive feature of Outão Beach is its location next to the ancient walls of the Forte de Santiago do Outão. This historic construction provides a unique setting for the site, with its architecture serving as a backdrop for the small sandy area.
From the beach, visitors have the opportunity to enjoy an interesting view of the Sado estuary landscape. It is possible to contemplate the northern tip of the Tróia Peninsula, visible across the estuary, as well as the slopes of the Arrábida Mountain that descend towards the sea in this area.
Outão Beach is known for its calm and serene atmosphere. Away from the hustle and bustle, it offers a more secluded and peaceful space, inviting visitors to relax and enjoy the tranquility the place provides.
This bathing area is located within the limits of the Arrábida Natural Park. Its location within this protected area highlights its natural value and the beauty of the surrounding landscape, characterized by the rich transition between the mountains and the estuarine and maritime environment.
It is important to know that Outão Beach is located on a property where a hospital exists. There is information indicating that access to the sandy area may be restricted and primarily intended for institution staff, their families, or for specific activities requiring prior permission. The possibility of free access for the general public is not clear. Additionally, physical access to the sandy area, by bypassing the fort's wall, is only possible when the tide is low.
