Situated on the coastal area of the municipality of Sines, São Torpes Beach is integrated into the vast perimeter of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. Its position offers a wide natural setting along the extensive Alentejo coast, remaining accessible from the Sines area.
São Torpes Beach features an extensive sandy area, notable for its fine, light-colored or golden sand. This vast stretch of sand invites long walks along the shoreline and offers ample space to enjoy the coastal environment and surrounding landscape.
A particular aspect of this beach is its waters, which can be notably milder in comparison to other beaches in the region, influenced by the proximity of an energy complex. This characteristic, combined with the sea conditions, makes São Torpes Beach a highly sought-after location for surfers.
São Torpes Beach is intimately linked to an ancient legend. It is believed that it was on this sandy shore that the body of Saint Torpes, a first-century Christian martyr, washed ashore. To mark this site of historical and religious significance, the Padrão de São Torpes is located nearby, which marks the spot where, according to tradition, the saint was buried.
