Praia da Samoqueira is located on the coast near the town of Porto Covo, which belongs to the municipality of Sines. It is situated within the protected area of the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. To access the sandy beach, it is necessary to descend the cliffs that shape the surrounding landscape.
This beach is part of a series of small coves and sandy areas that characterize this stretch of the Alentejo coast, standing out for its natural setting, composed of rocks and cliffs.
Praia da Samoqueira has a sandy expanse that adjusts significantly with the movement of the tides. When the tide is high, the sandy strip becomes narrower.
At low tide, the sandy area widens and exposes a set of rocks that punctuate the beach along its length, creating a more fragmented and interesting path to explore.
What distinguishes Samoqueira are the rock formations and cliffs that flank it, resulting from marine erosion. This natural environment includes caves and small rocky islands that become more visible when the tide is low.
Low tide also allows for the formation of natural pools among the rocks, providing sheltered spots. During periods of greater precipitation, a small freshwater stream flows into the central area of the beach.
The beach's environment is marked by its integration into the preserved nature of the coast. The cliffs and rock formations create a more secluded setting.
Access to the sandy beach is via descents in the cliffs, including a stone staircase that leads to a more isolated sandy pocket in the southern section of the beach.
