Nestled between the cliffs that mark the coastal stretch of Porto Covo, a small bay facing southwest opens up, where Praia da Engardaceira is situated. The reduced sandy area, partially covered by rounded pebbles, lies at the foot of golden escarpments, requiring attention when choosing a spot to rest.
From the top of the cliff, this cove is accessed by a narrow pedestrian path that descends to sea level; in certain spots, a rope attached to the rock aids in the descent. The contact with the Atlantic Ocean is felt in the breeze and the continuous crashing of the waves.
The almost symmetrical shape of the bay, like a shell, creates a unique setting. At the water's edge, scattered rocks extend towards the surf, offering viewpoints of the seabed and the movement of the tides.
This wild coast stands out for the union of the reddish color of the escarpments with the silvery tone of the water, combining rustic vegetation on the cliff with the ebb and flow of rocks that appear and disappear with the tide.
From this same location, the first stage of the Fishermen's Trail, an integral part of the Rota Vicentina, begins. Encounters with small islets and hidden coves extend to the north and south, inviting you to continue your journey along the sea.
In spring, the nearby dunes fill with flowers and aromas, reinforcing the feeling of immersion in an authentic Alentejo, where silence mixes with the sound of seagulls and the murmur of the waves.
