Porto Covo Bay Beach is located in the southern part of the picturesque village it is named after, integrated within the Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park area. It is nestled at the bottom of a natural bay, characterized by being narrow and extending inland.
This location allows the beach to be very close to the village's urban center, being easily accessible from the surrounding streets of the area known as Praia da Baía (Bay Beach).
More than just a sandy area for bathers, this bay traditionally functions as a natural harbor for small local fishing boats. It is common to see boats docked or in motion, which gives the place a particular dynamic linked to the region's fishing activity.
This historical function and the constant presence of fishermen and their boats have led this beach to be popularly known as the Fishermen's Beach.
The sandy area of this beach has variable dimensions, noticeably changing according to the tidal cycle. At low tide, it reveals a more extensive area, while at high tide, the sand area significantly reduces.
The scenery is marked by the sheltered shape of the bay and the view of the fishing boats, creating an atmosphere that blends natural beauty with local maritime life. At the eastern end of the bay, near some vegetation, a small watercourse flows out.
