Situated in the heart of Pinhal Novo, the fountain stands beside a small public garden, surrounded by poplar and plane trees that create a gentle canopy during the warmer months.
It is installed in a square paved with traditional Portuguese cobblestones, where geometric patterns in shades of gray and white are laid out, in a tranquil setting but with easy access for those strolling through the village center.
Erected in the early 20th century, this fountain emerged as a source of potable water for the local population. It was customary for the people of Pinhal Novo to gather there to collect fresh water and exchange news.
Its traditional design reflects a taste for Ribatejo's popular architecture, keeping alive the memory of the old public fountains that marked the urban landscape.
The structure, in white-painted masonry with yellow friezes, stands out for the application of blue tiles, which display floral patterns and heraldic motifs. The ensemble has simple lines, but gains personality through the central panel, where the ceramics reveal artisanal mastery.
The gentle sound of water, even at reduced flow, combines with the green of the lawns and the undulating paving of the surrounding paths, offering a moment of freshness and contemplation.
The perfect framing is found on the diagonal that joins the fountain to the light-colored tree trunks and the pattern of the cobblestones. The contrast between the white, yellow, and blue of the tiles creates a colorful motif that stands out in any photograph.
In the afternoons with soft light, the fountain casts delicate shadows on the ground, transforming into a harmonious setting for visual records that capture both the architectural detail and the serenity of the space.
