This park was designed to be an important metropolitan-scale leisure and nature space. Currently, it covers a considerable area, with plans for future expansion that will make it one of the largest urban parks in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area. Its creation had the main purpose of protecting and valuing natural environments, offering a setting for observing local flora and fauna.

Ecological Richness and Protection

The park is part of the Site of Community Importance of the Natura 2000 Network of Fernão Ferro/Lagoa de Albufeira, a designation that highlights its ecological relevance. Here, one can find priority and threatened natural habitats, such as Mediterranean temporary ponds and Atlantic humid heathlands. The park's management work focuses on restoring native vegetation, eliminating invasive species, and promoting natural regeneration, actively contributing to the preservation of these areas of high environmental value.

Trails and Facilities

For visitors, the park has a network of trails that invite walking and cycling, also establishing a connection with the Seixal Environmental Interpretation Trails Network. For moments of rest or an outdoor picnic, the Picnic Park offers a pleasant space located in the highest area. There is also the Biodiversity House, an interpretation and environmental education center, which includes a small pond where amphibians can be observed, providing a learning experience that respects wildlife.
