It is located in Largo do Duque de Palmela, in the heart of the town's historic center.
Built in 1645, during the reign of D. João IV, it has been classified as a National Monument since 1910.
Made of limestone (lioz), it is composed of two octagonal base steps, a cylindrical and smooth shaft, and a capital decorated with acanthus leaves. Despite the similarities, the capital does not follow the traditional Corinthian style.
, At the top, four iron hooks with shapes resembling animals.
, A square piece with the date "1645".
, Royal shield and crown with an iron cross.
, Representation of a palm next to the shield, perhaps as a reference to the name Palmela.
, Demolished in the 19th century, possibly after the extinction of the Municipality in 1855.
, Rebuilt by the local community in 1908 as a symbol of the struggle for the restoration of the Municipality, which was achieved in 1926.
A historical and cultural landmark that combines art, history, and a strong local symbolism, being ideal for those interested in exploring Palmela's heritage.
